Georgetown: 2010 – 2011 Women’s College Squash Season Preview

Washington, DC — Georgetown started their 2009-2010 season with a bang. The club team, which is only a few years old, upset George Washington 5-4. GWU is a varsity program and had been ranked 15th in the nation before the season began; Georgetown came into the season ranked 28th.

The Hoyas followed up that win with an 8-1 win over Haverford, another varsity squad, and a 7-2 win over Northeastern. The Hoyas weren’t able to sustain their success over the course of the season, but they finished the season ranked 24th, the program’s strongest finish ever.

The Hoyas will return all but two of their players from last season, and club founder Kiran Gandhi, who played number 1 at the beginning of the season but then went abroad, will be back in the lineup. The team also expects to have several first-year players join once the academic year begins.

Georgetown is in a good position to defend last season’s finish as the top women’s club program in the nation.
