Bucknell: 2010 – 2011 Men’s College Squash Season Preview

Lewisburg, PA — The Bucknell Bison have been making steady progress as they establish themselves as a club team.

After finishing third in the Emerging Teams Division in 2009, they fielded enough players to compete in the Hawthorn Cup (G Division), where they finished sixth. The Bison’s second trip to the Men’s National Team Championships included a 5-4 win over Notre Dame, an impressive feat since short-handed Bucknell had to forfeit the number 8 and 9 matches.

The Bison also expanded their schedule last year, competing in a number of regular season matches for the first time. They notched a key win over Bard, a varsity team, and had competitive matches with other teams from schools that traditionally compete in the Patriot League.

“We had no players graduate this past year and look forward to a strong freshman class,” says team captain and acting coach Kirk Bonner. “Our season goals are to finish the season with a winning record and be ranked in the top 50.” With a season of competitive play behind them, the Bison should be able to continue their improvement.
