Colby: 2009 – 2010 Women’s College Squash Season Preview

colbyWaterville, ME — For most of the past decade, Colby has been a consistent presence in the Kurtz Cup, finishing as high as 11th in the nation and no lower than 15th. But between the 2007-2008 and 2008-2009 seasons, Colby dropped nine spots in the rankings, to 23rd. The Mules look to climb back up in the rankings this year.

The team has five seniors returning from last year’s Howe Cup roster: Samantha Smith, Maddie Dufour, Caroline Reaves, Kaeley Shepard, and Jessica Kravetz. Smith, who earned 2nd-team All-NESCAC honors last season, has played at the top of the Mules’ ladder since her first year on the team. This season she’ll have another leadership role, as captain.

Colby has only lost two players to graduation, but Catherine Monrad and Jessica Vogel played right behind Smith in the lineup.  The four members of the class of 2013 joining the team — Lily Greenberg, Allison Mond, Kate Pistel, and Molly Parsons — are expected to play in the middle of the ladder, and if the juniors playing at the bottom of the ladder can continue their improvement into this season, it will only strengthen the team.

The team has been involved with charities in the Waterville area and in the local school system. “We are a hard working team ready for another fun season and ready to make a mark,” coach Sakhi Khan writes.
