In the first-ever meeting between the two programs, No. 21 Denison traveled to Clinton, N.Y., and delivered a statement performance, defeating No. 23 Hamilton 7–2. While the scoreline shows a comfortable victory for the Big Red, the match featured several tightly contested battles at the top of the lineup.
A Battle at the Top
In the longest match of the day, Hamilton’s Eleanor Bunn (#2) outlasted Amelia Keng in a grueling five game run. Bunn fought off match points in a back and forth battle (11-7, 12-14, 11-5, 12-14, 11-6) to secure a signature win for the Continentals in 42 minutes. Hamilton also picked up a win at No. 4, with Diya Dhillon sweeping her opponent 3–0.
However, Denison’s Charlotte Jones (#1) was dominant at the top spot, defeating Hamilton’s Karis Sun 3–0.
Denison’s Depth Takes Over
Ultimately, Denison’s depth proved too much for the New York hosts. The Big Red swept positions 5 through 10, dropping only a single game across those six matches.
Notable performances included a hard-fought win at No. 3 by Denison’s DaNerah Chisholm, who overcame Poppy Huffman in a close five-game match (5-11, 5-11, 11-3, 11-7, 8-11), rallying from two games down to secure the point.
With a commanding performance through the bottom half of the lineup, Denison fully backed up their higher ranking and heads into the break celebrating a historic first-ever win over Hamilton.
