Match of the Week
Women
No. 1 Princeton University vs. No. 3 Harvard University
The battle for the top spot in women’s college squash heats up this Sunday, February 2, as the newly crowned #1 Princeton Tigers travel to Cambridge to take on #3 Harvard. The match is set to begin at 12:00 PM on Harvard’s home courts.
This Ivy League showdown features two of the most dominant programs in the sport. Harvard held the nation’s top ranking until this week’s CSA ranking update, which saw Princeton move into the #1 position. Both teams recently faced off against #2 Trinity, with Princeton earning a 5-4 victory, while Harvard fell to the Bantams by the same narrow margin.
Last season, Princeton snapped a 14-match losing streak to Harvard with a victory in the Howe Cup semifinals, marking their first win over the Crimson since the 2012-13 season. The Tigers have not won back-to-back matches against Harvard since 2008-09, but they have a chance to change that history this weekend.
With Ivy League standings and national rankings on the line, this matchup promises to be one of the most exciting of the season.
Men
No. 3 Yale University vs. No. 4 Trinity College
A marquee matchup in men’s college squash is set for Wednesday, February 5 at 5:30pm, as the #4 Trinity Bantams travel to New Haven to take on the #3 Yale Bulldogs. The match will take place at Yale University, where both teams will battle for a critical late-season victory.
Yale enters as the higher-ranked team, boasting incredible depth throughout its lineup. However, history heavily favors Trinity in this rivalry. Over the past 13 seasons, the two programs have faced off 17 times, with Trinity dominating the series. Yale’s only wins in that span came in 2023 and 2012, underscoring just how tough it has been to overcome the Bantams.
Last season, the two teams met in a dramatic semifinal at the CSA National Team Championships, where Trinity edged out Yale in a nail-biting 5-4 victory. With both squads eyeing top seeding for the postseason, Wednesday’s match will be another crucial test.
Expect high-intensity play and a fierce battle as Yale looks to defend home court and Trinity aims to maintain its historical edge in the rivalry.
The order of play for Week 9 (January 30 – February 5) is as follows:
3-Court System
3,1,2 / 4,6,5 / 7,8,9
5-Court System
2,1 / 4,3 / 5,6 / 7,8 / 10,9
