CSA Updates Team Rankings Using ELO

The College Squash Association (CSA) is excited to announce updated team rankings, which account for all match results recorded through January 23, 2024.

Notably, this week’s ranking update marks the first full implementation of the CSA’s ELO-based algorithm for team rankings, which is an objective tool that calculates standings based on head-to-head matchups and results against common opponents.

After several weeks of careful observation and accumulating match results, the CSA Rankings Committee has determined that the algorithm now possesses sufficient data to reliably underpin the national college team rankings. Therefore, the changes in this week’s rankings reflect recent key match outcomes as well as this adjustment to ELO methodology.

Key to the ELO algorithm is its comprehensive analysis of all team matches played during the season, forming an intricate network of results linked through common opponents. The coming weeks, packed with crucial matchups, will further enrich the algorithm’s dataset, enhancing the objectivity and precision of the rankings.
