Last Saturday afternoon, No. 18 Amherst defeated No. 19 Franklin & Marshall in the CSA Men’s Match of the Week. In another tightly contested battle, the Mammoths clinched a 6-3 win.
Last season, Franklin & Marshall took home the 5-4 victory against Amherst which pushed the team to return the favor. Head coach Busani Xaba comments, “most of the players remembered the feeling after the loss and refused to experience it again”. Over the break, “coaches and captains were able to direct the emotions in the right way” and use it as motivation heading into the match.
The Mammoths start off the second half of the season 3-0 with wins over Dickinson, F&M and Navy. “The team is motivated to keep improving and working hard. There are a lot of close matches coming up this January and the team is excited to face new challenges” Xaba shares.
Amherst will resume matches this weekend where they will face Dartmouth and MIT at home.
