Preseason Rankings Released, Week 1 Order of Play

As the 2023-2024 college squash season kicks off, we’re thrilled to announce that the College Squash Association (CSA) published the preseason rankings for all women’s and men’s varsity teams on Thursday evening, setting the stage for the season to begin in earnest this weekend.

In the women’s division, Harvard University continues to assert its dominance, maintaining the top spot in the rankings. However, competition will be fierce – Trinity College, Princeton University, and other impressive teams are gearing up for the season, are eager to leave their mark on the court, and plan to challenge Harvard.

On the men’s side, the University of Pennsylvania has ascended to the top position, surpassing the four-time defending team champion, Harvard. UPenn takes the top men’s spot thanks to a strong set of returning players coupled with an impressive incoming class.

The full list of preseason rankings is now available and will be continually updated throughout the season on CSA’s College Squash Rankings page. This year’s preseason rankings were determined using an algorithm that assesses the Club Locker player ratings of the top nine players from each team. These preseason rankings were subsequently reviewed and confirmed by the CSA Rankings Committee.

Keep in mind that these preseason rankings serve as an initial reference point, primarily based on the ratings of the players listed on team rosters. As the season progresses, team rankings will be regularly adjusted based on the outcomes of head-to-head team matches. Towards the end of January, once a sufficient number of matches have been played, rankings will transition to a computerized ELO methodology. It’s important to note that the ELO-based rankings will take into account all team matches played throughout the 2023-2024 season and will not be directly influenced by these preseason rankings.

With a full slate of matches scheduled for this weekend, including the first varsity match of the season between the women’s and men’s teams from Vassar College and St. Lawrence University, the CSA has also published the randomized order of play for the upcoming week:
