Another exciting weekend of college squash is in the books, and while there were only slight changes to the rankings this week, every match plays an important role in a team’s final seeding.
As the college squash season commences its final stages before the championships, the College Squash Association (CSA) will start updating the team rankings on a weekly basis. With so much parity between many teams, CSA has started the shift toward using an objective ELO-based algorithm to line up the standings.
Like last week when the Trinity women secured their top-ranked position with a victory over No. 2 Harvard, the top-ranked Harvard men’s team outlasted No. 2 Penn in a very close 5-4 win on Sunday to solidify their place at the top of the standings.
The only other change in the Top 10 rankings was Cornell’s move over Yale in the women’s standings. The Big Red narrowly edged Yale on the road, beating the Elis for the first time since 2001 and clinching the No. 5 position in this week’s poll.
On the men’s side, big victories by Williams, Amherst, and Hobart see each of them climb one spot in the rankings this week. With a loss to Amherst over the weekend, the Bowdoin women fell outside of the Top 16 for the first time this season. The NESCAC Championships for both genders looms large on the schedule as many conference member teams will compete for spots in the National Collegiate B Division.
The club squash season is shaping up nicely, with 12 active women’s teams and 33 active men’s teams earning rankings this week. Six new teams joined the rankings this time after logging at least their third match of the 2022-2023 season.
