Week Preview: Heavy NESCAC Activity to Start 2022

After a hiatus for December exams and winter break, several teams are jumping right back into action in the new year. As might be expected, the status of some matches have been impacted by the prevalence of the Omicron variant of COVID-19, but we still feature several exciting matchups, particularly within NESCAC conference play.

  • Maine Teams on the Road – The three CSA member programs from Maine – Bates, Bowdoin, and Colby – hit the road this weekend for critical conference matches. Williams and Middlebury will each play host to all three teams. While Williams will be strong favorites at home, Middlebury will face three tough challenges on their home courts, especially on the men’s side.
  • Amherst, Tufts Eager to Continue Success – NESCAC foes Amherst and Tufts were two of the hottest teams when we arrived at the break in 2021, and both teams will look to carry that momentum into the opening week of 2022. Amherst welcomes Dartmouth in a big matchup over the weekend before traveling north to Bowdoin and Colby. Tufts hits the road with a Mid-Atlantic trip to Virginia, Georgetown (women), Navy (men), and Penn.
  • First Top-10 Battle of 2022 – Drexel (No. 7 Women/No. 9 Men) travel up to New Haven, CT on Sunday to take on Yale (No. 4/No. 5) in the first top-10 match of 2022. Despite a slight spread in the rankings, recent history has shown that contests between teams in this portion of the rankings are often very closely contested.
