With only a handful of first-semester matches remaining this week, the College Squash Association (CSA) shares its latest update to the team rankings. One upset on the women’s side and several for the men see some adjustments to the rankings this week.
There was significant movement within the men’s Top 8 after two 5-4 results between Drexel and Columbia and then Cornell and Columbia. Most notably, Cornell’s win over Columbia creates a triangle of results with Virginia, who beat Cornell (5-4) but lost to Columbia (3-6). Columbia’s better match score against Virginia means the Lions remain in the No. 6 spot ahead of Cornell at No. 7 and Virginia at No. 8. Drexel tumbles down to No. 9 due to its loss to Columbia and no other common results with the other two teams in the triangle.
Moving further down the men’s rankings, Chatham and Franklin & Marshall jump ahead of MIT and Williams after F&M’s win over MIT in Virginia last weekend. Similarly, Dickinson and Bates leapfrog Bowdoin thanks to Bates’s rivalry win over Bowdoin last Thursday. Finally, Haverford and Conn College flip-flop places with the Fords winning the head-to-head battle at Vassar over the weekend.
The only result that shifted the rankings for the women was Tufts’s upset of Bates at home. The two NESCAC foes switch places, with Tufts taking the No. 15 spot ahead of Bates at No. 16.
The only other big mover over the past week was Michigan’s club team, which captured its best program victory to date over previous No. 32 Denison. Michigan jumps 10 spots into that No. 32 spot, with every other team moving down a place.
