Dunlop College Squash Men’s Team Rankings Released

The College Squash Association is releasing the first Dunlop College Squash Team Rankings of 2019 in two parts this week, starting with the men’s rankings.

Only 11 days into the second half of the season and already there have been noteworthy results that have had an impact on the rankings placement of several teams.

Former No. 1 Trinity withstood a tough challenge against Columbia last week, but then fell to Rochester earlier this week in another very tight match. Those results, coupled with the strength of Penn’s roaring 8-0 start to the 2018-2019 campaign, have shaken up the top five.

Penn checks in at No. 1 for the first time in many years in front of a Rochester squad that the Quakers ousted in December. Undefeated Harvard, who took down then-No. 3 Columbia 9-0 on Sunday, is in third position, followed by No. 4 Trinity and No. 5 Columbia.

The mixed results of St. Lawrence and George Washington over the past week have caused mayhem in the 8-16 range of the rankings. St. Lawrence won the head-to-head match-up of the two schools, but only after losing a close 5-4 match to new No. 10 Western Ontario.  George Washington followed up its loss to the Saints with a monumental win last night over then-No. 8 Navy, 7-2.  Navy’s change in the rankings is the largest of the group, falling five spots to No. 13.

A little farther down the rankings, Bates and Dickinson saw their positions drop after each team earned multiple losses on the road.  Middlebury and Williams slot in at No. 18 and No. 19, respectively, while Bates falls to No. 20 and Dickinson, with its losses to Amherst and Tufts, tumbles six spots to No. 25.

Impactful matches continue to appear on the schedule as many teams fit in their final matches before classes begin again.  Contests over the next week that could have an meaningful effect on next week’s rankings include:

  • #5 Columbia vs. #2 Rochester
  • #7 Yale vs. #2 Rochester
  • #4 Trinity vs. #7 Yale
  • #10 Western Ontario vs. #9 Drexel
