Bard: 2018-2019 Women’s College Squash Season Preview

In its first season as varsity program, the Bard College Women’s Squash team competed well, earning the first three wins in program history and finishing the year with a ranking of 40.  With experienced Head Coach Craig Thorpe-Clark at the helm, Bard’s team has a great leader to help develop their fundamentals, approach to the game, and confidence in competition. While Thorpe-Clark will begin to hit the recruiting trail to bring experienced junior players to the program, he also must cultivate and develop first-time players who may already be on campus. The challenge will be particularly difficult this season after four starters from last year’s squad, including the top two players, will not return for the 2018-2019 season.  Seasoned tri-captain Olivia Terzian will likely lead from the front while Thorpe-Clark brings six newcomers into the fold.  First-time team member Jackie Lerman has already been called into action this season, with many other opportunities for her and her teammates still to come. Bard hosts a round robin competition this coming weekend and will look to capitalize on the home court advantage. The Liberty League Championships, hosted by St. Lawrence University this year, will be a nice end-of-the-year test for Bard’s burgeoning squad.
