Bowdoin: 2018-2019 Women’s College Squash Season Preview

After spending several years in the Walker Cup (C Division) competition, Bowdoin College’s Women’s team slipped in the rankings slightly in 2017.  Down to 24th that year, the Polar Bears were not able to recover last year, finishing with a ranking of 26 last season.  For the 2018-2019 season, Head Coach Tomas Fortson wants his team to earn success through their team culture and confidence in competition: “Bowdoin’s teams will focus on improving, developing our team dynamics and competing well.” While Fortson will lose a set of experienced players through last spring’s graduation, including Wetzel Award winner Zoe Wood, his core returning squad will be able to share their valuable experience with three newcomers to the team.  Even though their competition season kicks off right after Thanksgiving with a match against NESCAC neighbor Bates, the critical matches come at the end of the season leading up to the conference championship.  Bowdoin will meet Mount Holyoke, William Smith, and Conn College on consecutive weekends, staging three matches that will likely have major implications on the seeding at the CSA Team Championships.
