Despite new teams, increased parity, and a roster that changes every year, the Brown University Women’s Squash team has been the epitome of consistency in recent years. For five years straight, the Bears have finished the year ranked 11th in the CSA Women’s Team Rankings, including last year when they entered the Team Championships in 13th place. Finishing third in Kurtz Cup competition is certainly nothing to scoff at, but Head Coach Stuart leGassick and his squash will be looking to break the mold in 2019. Like many of their competitors, Brown’s roster has advantages and disadvantages heading into this year. Seven of the top eight starters return to the ladder, but the one that is missing is graduated senior, Number 1 player Quincy Beck. In an effort to replace Beck and her graduated teammates, leGassick has added five first-years to his roster, including a few who should be key contributors from the first match onwards. George Washington presents an early season test for the Bears, but the last week of the season with matches against Williams and Dartmouth will decide Brown’s seed heading into the CSA Team Championships.
