Rochester: 2018-2019 Men’s College Squash Season Preview

After nearly reaching the pinnacle of the college game in 2016, finishing as national runner-up, the University of Rochester Men’s Squash team has finished in the bottom half of the Potter Cup draw for the past two years. With a 5th place finish in 2017 and 6th in 2018, Head Coach Martin Heath and his squad hope to reverse that trend in 2019. Doing so, however, certainly presents a challenge considering the make-up of Rochester’s lineup heading into the season.  CSA Second Team All-American Tomotaka Endo graduated in 2018 along with two of his teammates who were also in the starting lineup, but Heath adds only two first-years to the roster as potential replacements.  Both recruits look to be strong additions to the roster, but the Yellowjackets will need at least one returner from the bottom portion of their ladder to step up into meaningful play right away.  The roster will have to round into shape relatively quickly too with challengers Penn and Princeton traveling to Rochester in early December. With only 12 student-athletes on the roster, sustaining player health late into the season will be vital with Dartmouth and St. Lawrence at the tail end of the schedule.
