Middlebury: 2018-2019 Men’s College Squash Season Preview

The Middlebury College Men’s Squash team finished 2018 in very strong fashion, upsetting two higher ranked teams at the CSA Men’s Team National Championships en route to a Number 19 final ranking.  The team also picked up some nice accolades towards the end of the season with the top two players – Will Cembalest and Jacob Ellen – receiving All-NESCAC honors and Head Coach Mark Lewis earning NESCAC Men’s Coach of the Year for the second straight season.  The success at the end of last season bodes well for this year as the roster will look very similar.  Cembalest, Ellen, and 3rd position player Jacob Kagan return to lead the Panthers along with four additional returning starters.  Lewis added three recruits to that mix, hoping the first-years can plug the holes caused by three seniors graduating.  The experience and depth will pay dividends when Middlebury goes up against the two teams they upset at last year’s Team Nationals, Williams and Bates, early in 2019.  In order to reach their goal of breaking into the top 16, they will have to start by taking down teams like Dickinson and Franklin & Marshall.
