Minnesota: 2016 – 2017 Women’s College Squash Season Preview

Minnesota, University of Minneapolis, MN — Minnesota continues to have large expectations for their program. The Gophers concluded lsat season by finishing 10th in the E Division at the Women’s College Squash Association National Team Championships. According to coach John Stevers, “The Gopher women’s team will continue in rebuilding mode this season after losing our #2 and #4 players to graduation and the #8 player to injury. The returning players will be stronger with top flight coaching so the prognosis is good. Unfortunately, reduced funding from our Rec Sports department will mean fewer trips this year, but we will still qualify for nationals. And we will build on some budding rivalries such as Smith College and NYU with whom we had several close matches last season. Another key match up will be Cal Berkeley, who will meet up with us at a Smith College RR.” Minnesota needs competitive regular season matches so they may be seeded appropriately for Team Championships.
