St. Lawrence: 2016 – 2017 Women’s College Squash Season Preview

St. Lawrence University Canton, NY — With a 4-13 record last season, including a 6th place finish in the Walker Cup (C Division) at the 2016 Women’s College Squash Association National Team Championships, St. Lawrence’s goal of making the 2017 Kurtz Cup (B Division) may appear as a stretch. Yet with only one player, their #9, from last season’s Team Championships graduating and five incoming first-year students, the depth and experience may be there. To make the leap to the Kurtz Cup, St. Lawrence has added new matches to its schedule, including contests with Connecticut College, Colby, Colgate, Middlebury, George Washington, Amherst, Bates, and Wesleyan. The Saints also recognize the importance of traditional matches with Wellesley and Tufts. St. Lawrence’s strength last year was the top of its line-up. With the top-3 players returning, look for the newcomers to strengthen the remainder of the ladder, which should help the Saints improve, especially in matches in the middle of the order. St. Lawrence may not finish the season in the Kurtz Cup, but look for a top-20 finish this season.
