Drexel: 2016 – 2017 Women’s College Squash Season Preview

Drexel University Philadelphia, PA — Drexel continued its accession up the rankings last season. The team concluded the year as the runners-up in the Kurtz Cup (B Division) at the Women’s National Team Championships, a program-best finish. To improve even further, Drexel will need to strengthen the bottom of its ladder. Last season, the top 3 and middle 3 had .667 and .648 win percentages, while the lower 3 only had a .389 win percentage. Wih Drexel’s top-4 players returning, look for the Dragons to remain strong at the top of the ladder. Mary Fung-A-Fat and Ryan Morgan will captain a squad with seven of the eleven players returning from last season’s team championships. The team is also finalizing its roster of incoming players. During the offseason, Fung-A-Fat represented Guyana in the 2016 Ladies CASA Championship. According to assistant coach Kelsey Engman, Fung-A-Fat, a two-year captain, “is a squash nut, a court rat, and a good student. She gracefully stepped into her role as captain and has been a leader and a friend to her teammates and a great help to her coaches. We look forward to seeing her play in her senior season and we will miss her when she goes.” If Drexel can improve the bottom of its ladder, look for the Dragons to be in the hunt for the Howe Cup.
