Granville, OH — Denison has been planning a women’s program for some time, but 2015 – 2016 is the season it will come to fruition. According to head coach Walt Thieman, “We have twelve women on the roster and are looking to be competitive.” The talent ranges from a player with international experience to former prep school players to several student athletes who have been playing squash for at least two years. The Big Red want to compete in a nine-player division at Team Championships. Qualifying is very likely given the team is planning trips to Pennsylvania, Chicago, and Cincinnati for round robin events. “By establishing a bona fide program, our hopes are to recruit more women in the future. Long term the hope is to be varsity team by the time this year’s first-year students are juniors or seniors,” add Thieman. If the Big Red can play enough matches to qualify for Team Championships, they may earn victories over many surprised teams.
