Cambridge, MA — In his debut season with the Engineers, head coach Thierry Lincou led the team to their first winning record since 2008 – 2009 campaign. Lincou plans to continue the reemergence of MIT squash. “It is our hope to challenge for the Conroy Division title through hard work and dedication day in and day out,” states Lincou. Although MIT lost four of its starters from Team Championships, the team is adding four new players, including two who are expected to challenge for ladder positions in the top 3. Lincou adds that “the growth of every player on our roster from top to bottom is the focus we have each day, knowing that if as individuals they improve, the team results will come.” Tri-captain Marina Crowe, a neuroscience major, has the honor of being the sole women projected to play in the top 9. She “is going to be pivotal this season in setting the tone for the work ethic that will be required to make the strides we are looking to make as a team,” comments Lincou. The Engineers expanded their schedule last season, including trips outside of the Boston area. This allowed MIT to face more challenging teams and move up the rankings. Matches with Bucknell, Hamilton, Stanford, and Tufts are key to the Engineers’ success this season. Lincou explains that “this is only the beginning. We are eager to build this program, recruiting stronger players and developing the talent we already have. It won’t happen overnight, but we expect to consistently move up in the rankings, becoming a top academic and squash institution.”
