Ithaca, NY — Since 2009, when they made the jump to the A Division, Cornell has been one of the most consistent performers at the Women’s National Team Championships. Typically, the Big Red lose on the first day of the tournament, rebound with a dramatic win (or, less frequently, a close loss) in the consolation semifinals, and fade on the last day, finishing between 5th and 7th in the nation. Could this be the year Cornell reaches the upper echelon of the Howe Cup, or will they by stymied by one of the rising programs competing for a spot in the A Division? The Big Red squad is young this year, with only two seniors: co-captains Reut Odinak and Olivia Wherry. “They are both fully invested in their team and will lead well. Cornell squash will definitely be united and play their best due to their endeavors,” head coach Julee Devoy reports. Newcomers Lauren Leizman, Nghi Nguyen, and Hannah Scherl will be joining the Big Red, and the program boasts a new electronic scoring system as well.
