Eugene, OR — Oregon competed at last season as an Emerging Team, but the Ducks are on the verge of fielding a nine-player squad. All five players from last season will return, and two new players are already slated to join. Neither Shingo Kise nor Walker Nodine has prior squash experience, but they show promise. “We hope to expand on all fronts this year by recruiting a handful of younger players out of the student body, as well as playing new teams in new venues,” explains co-captain Gordon Reed. “We were only able to bring five players to the Team Championships this past year, but collectively strive to make a bigger impact with a nine-man team this year.” Reed speaks highly of his co-captain, fellow senior Chris Cramer. “While on paper I have been the team president, three-time co-captain Chris Cramer has been the heart and soul of this team (I’m just better at sending emails),” Reed demurs. “After learning squash our freshman year, Chris absorbed all squash information he could get his hands on and rose to the No. 2 spot on our roster. He quickly took over the player-coach roles of Team Practice Coach and Conditioning Coach and has worked to form the fun, fast-paced, high intensity culture that has been so influential in our success. An unrelenting task-master, Chris is able to keep the team running on a day-to-day basis during the season while providing the model for sportsmanship and hard work on the court.” Oregon is planning a training trip to Stanford early in the semester and will open the season at the Minnesota Round Robin.
