Northampton, MA — For the week ending 11/16/2014, Haverford’s Samara Flug and Stanford’s Peter Satterthwaite have been named the women’s and men’s [hpow].

A [hpow] should have a significant impact on his or her team’s performance during the prior week and demonstrate sportsmanship. Coaches and Sports Information Directors may nominate players.

Samara Flug (Haverford): On Saturday, 33rd-ranked Haverford visited Dickinson College. It was Dickinson’s first varsity match ever and the Red Devils had a crowd of over 400 fans. The match between the Centennial Conference rivals was very close. Haverford won the matches at top of the ladder, while Dickinson won the matches at the bottom of the ladder. The match at the #5 position between senior Flug and Dickinson first-year student Meagan Dashcund was critical for both teams. Down 1-2, Flug rebounded to claim the match in five games (13-11, 18-20, 9-11, 11-7, and 11-8). Haverford won the match, 5-4.

Peter Satterthwaite (Stanford): Any time two closely ranked teams play is exciting, and the matchup between 27th-ranked Stanford and 28th-ranked Virginia was no exception. At the match at the #9 position, Stanford sophomore Peter Satterthwaite faced Virginia junior Russell Bogue. After being tied in games at 1-1, Satterthwaite went on to clinch the match in four games (11-8, 6-11, 13-11, and 11-8). Stanford captured the team match, 5-4.
