Cornell: 2014 – 2015 Men’s College Squash Season Preview

Cornell UniversityIthaca, NY — Cornell finished last season ranked sixth in the nation, and the Big Red’s goal for 2014-2015 is to match or exceed that performance. Six players who competed for Cornell at the 2013-2014 Men’s National Team Championships will be back on the squad, including Aditya Jagtap, the lone senior starter returning. Japgtap, an All-Ivy and Academic All-Ivy selection in 2014, will serve as captain alongside juniors Gustav Runersjo and Graham Dietz. Five new players will be joining the Big Red: Jordan Brail, Andrew Stone, Liad Hare, Seb Obieta-Chichizola, and Ian Rothweiler. The newcomers, who are all expected to play in the middle and bottom of the order, will add depth to the Big Red’s line-up.  “All opponents on our schedule will be key to a successful season,” says head coach Mark Devoy. After warming up with the Ivy Scrimmages, Cornell will open the season at home against Western Ontario, Williams, and George Washington. “It will be a fun season with many improved teams,” predicts Devoy. “There are going to be some great matches.” Expect Cornell to be in the middle of many of them.
