Tufts: 2014 – 2015 Women’s College Squash Season Preview

Tufts UniversityMedford, MA — Tufts finished last season as the 27th-ranked team in the nation and placed 3rd in the Epps Cup (D Division). This season, the Jumbos want to improve. According to senior co-captain Ann Bellinger, the team goal “is to be competitive in the C Division at Nationals.” Critical to that goal is regular season match ups with other NESCAC schools, Mount Holyoke, St. Lawrence, and Wellesley. The team did particularly well in close matches last season. They defeated Boston College (twice), Conn College, and William Smith in 5-4 matches. The Jumbos’ sole 4-5 loss came in the Epps Cup against Virginia, the eventual winner of that division. A key step to improving this season will be the lower third of the team. Last season, positions 7, 8, and 9 combined to win 28% of their matches. With two seniors from the starting nine graduating and number 1 Paget Stanco studying abroad in the fall, the team will need to rely on its six new players to fill the vacancies.
