George Washington: 2014 – 2015 Women’s College Squash Season Preview

George Washington UniversityWashington, DC — After earning the Kurtz Cup (B Division) last season, George Washington is intent on moving into the A Division this season.  On achieving the goal of moving to the A Division, head coach Wendy Lawrence states that “the hard work that will be required to move up will be intense, but I think the team is ready to make the commitment it will take.” The team will be deep with experience as seven of the Colonials’ top nine from last season’s team championships are returning. GW’s strength last season was at the top of the ladder. The top three ladder positions captured 82% of their matches. The team also went 2-0 in 5-4 matches, which were their final two matches of the season at championships against Brown and Columbia. Those victories avenged regular season losses. Adding to the existing experience will be five incoming players, all with decorated squash resumes, who will be battling for spots throughout the Colonials’ line-up.  Over the winter break, the team is planning a training trip to northern California.  The results from last season showed George Washington to the squash world. This season, the Colonials intend to place themselves firmly on the map of elite teams.
