Northampton, MA — For the week ending 11/24/2013, Hamilton’s Hannah Coffin and Drexel’s Ibrahim Bakir have been named the women’s and men’s [hpow].

A [hpow] should have a significant impact on his or her team’s performance during the prior week and demonstrate sportsmanship. Coaches and Sports Information Directors may nominate players.

Hannah Coffin (Hamilton): The 20th-ranked Hamilton Continentals hosted 12th-ranked Middlebury this past weekend. With the match tied at 4-4, number six Coffin faced the Panthers’ Amanda Chen. After falling behind 1-2, Coffin rallied to capture the final two games, each 11-9, to capture the match in five games (11-8, 3-11, 12-14, 11-9, and 11-9). The Continentals’ 5-4 upset of Middlebury is believed to be the program’s first victory over the Panthers since February 3, 2000.

Ibrahim Bakir (Drexel): Drexel University’s home opener featured a match-up with 11th-ranked Williams. Drexel, the 21st-ranked squad,  took a early 4-2 lead, but the Ephs battled back to knot the score at 4-4. Drexel’s top player, Bakir, faced Williams’ Jamie Rizzero to decide the match. After losing the first game, Bakir captured the individual and team match by winning the next three games (11-13, 11-8, 11-7, and 11-3).
