Penn: 2013 – 2014 Women’s College Squash Season Preview

Pennsylvania, University of Philadelphia, PA — The Quakers are focused on the Ivy League Scrimmages as the season begins. “They are first on the schedule and the team is excited to showcase its skills,” says Alex Falk, a sports information director at Penn. For Penn, as for the other Ivy League teams, the Scrimmages are a chance to eye some of their key competition. The event, which does not count toward the regular season, will also give Penn the opportunity to test out a substantially new line-up, as four starters from last season’s team have graduated. Anaka Alankamon and Michelle Wong, members of the class of 2017, will be joining the team, and there will also be opportunities for veteran players to step up and fill the spots in the line-up. Two new assistant coaches, Gilly Lane and Ricky Dodd, will be joining the program as well; Lane, who has represented the United States internationally, was a standout player at Penn, and Dodd played in the national team finals for Yale. “The team’s goals are to improve every day at practice, thus improving match results, and finally resulting in an improved national ranking,” says Falk. Since the Quakers finished third in the nation last year, an improved ranking would mean a trip to the Howe Cup final.
