George Washington: 2013 – 2014 Women’s College Squash Season Preview

George Washington University Washington, DC — George Washington is on a mission: to crack the top 10. “We are determined to have a top 10 breakthrough season,” says head coach Wendy Lawrence. They may have the team to do it. “We have the deepest roster ever with all players returning and four new strong additions to the team,” Lawrence explains. Breanne Flynn, a former Irish #1 junior and a member of the Irish national team, is expected to play in the top 3. Mehak Chawla and Alejandra Porras, whose sister Anna became GW’s first All-American last season, will likely play in the middle of the order, and Jessica Perkins will add depth to the bottom three. Alex Gross, a former top player for Tufts, will join the Colonials as an assistant coach, following in the footsteps of his older brother Jake. The whole team will be working on improving strength and conditioning and raising their competitive focus. Finishing fourteenth in the nation last season was a program best, but the Colonials believe their best is yet to come.
