Northeastern: 2013 – 2014 Men’s College Squash Season Preview

Northeastern University Boston, MA — “Northeastern wants to return to competitive play in the D bracket this year,” assistant coach Keith Sproat declares. “With our wealth of returning players and new interest, we hope to propel ourselves back to our position two years ago in the low 30s.” Among the new players joining the team are two juniors, Timothy Dyer and Max Kachur, who are expected to play in the top three, and two other new players, Evan Jacobson and Asad Kamal, who will add additional depth and experience to the line-up. The Huskies have identified three local teams as key matches: Tufts, BU, and BC. “We play each of these teams twice this season,” Sproat explains. “Not only are they local rivals, but they have recently surpassed us in the rankings. In the past, our program has traditionally been victorious over them and we hope to regain our past dominance. Beating Tufts will put us into the D bracket, while beating BU and BC will poise us for a #1 seed going into the E cup draw at nationals.” To celebrate the program’s tenth year, the Huskies are planning an alumni match, but their focus is more on the future than the past. “Our team chemistry is at an all-time high and we are going into this next season with a lot of passion and excitement,” says Sproat. “Our program is at a tipping point and we believe we are going to dramatically change the nature of our program within the next 2-3 years.”
