Wesleyan: 2013 – 2014 Women’s College Squash Season Preview

Wesleyan University Middletown, CT — Will the third time be the charm for Wesleyan in the Walker Cup finals? In 2012, the Cardinals made it all the way to the C Division finals, only to fall to George Washington. Last season they were tantalizingly close to the division title, but Bowdoin defeated them 5-4 in the final. This time around, Wesleyan wants to take the Walker Cup back to Middletown — unless, of course, they can move up a division. Newcomers Annie Ferreira and Abigail Smith will be joining the team, as will a new assistant coach. For the seventh year in a row, Wesleyan will be heading to warmer climes for a week-long training trip in January, but this year’s destination — Grand Cayman — will be different. ‘We will work extremely hard to be the most cohesive and supportive team possible both off and on the court,” says head coach Shona Kerr. “We will be working very hard to be the best possible individual players that we can be and an even better team as a collective group.” Kerr speaks highly of the team: “We are a diverse group of individuals with many varied interests and studies outside of the squash courts. The sport of squash brings us together and unites this committed group that loves to have fun and support each other.”
