Franklin & Marshall: 2012 – 2013 Men’s College Squash Season Preview

Lancaster, PA — Two years ago, F&M made the jump back up into the A Division. The Diplomats have finished 8th in the nation for two years running, and one of their goals for this season is to stay in the A Division. Gabe de Melo, who has been a fixture at number 1, will graduate in December and will not be with the team this season. The rest of the squad, however, will be back, and they will be joined by four new players. Pedro Veiga of Brazil is expected to play in the top 3, and Antonio De La Torre of Guatemala is expected to play in the middle of the order. Cleveland’s Dylan Cunningham should find a spot in the top 9, and UVA transfer Chris Brown will be joining the team as well. It’s a net gain for the Diplomats, who should be able to put more pressure on the other top-tier teams. It’s not all serious, though. “We work hard and play hard, and have fun while we train,” says head coach Gavin Jones. The team also volunteers with the Squash ACES program, working with underserved middle school students.
