Naval Academy: 2012 – 2013 Men’s College Squash Season Preview

Annapolis, MD — No one can accuse the Naval Academy squash team of slouching. “Navy plays more matches than any other college team and travels extensively,” explains head coach Craig Dawson. This year, the team’s impressive travel schedule started with a trip abroad, as the Midshipmen  played two exhibition matches in Dublin at the end of August. Several Navy players had already spent much of the summer abroad. John Richey, who will captain the team this year, spent six weeks in China, and Jim Kacergis spent 10 days in Dubai, playing squash every day. Back in Annapolis, the Midshipmen will focus on making a run for the B Division title. Navy had a strong finish to the regular season last year, but a 4-5 upset at the hands of Columbia pushed them into the consolation bracket. With only two players not returning and three newcomers who will add depth, Navy should be in the B Division mix again this season.
