Philadelphia, PA — In their first season as a varsity team, the Drexel Dragons shot up the rankings and improved their season record. The team finished the 2010-2011 season ranked 46th in the nation; by the end of last season, they were ranked 29th and had finished just shy of .500, going 9-10. Drexel fans can expect to see continued improvement from the Dragons. The team has lost only one player from the varsity line-up, #9 Rob Steidle. The five incoming players should all make an immediate impact on the ladder. Ibrahim Bakir (Egypt) and Binuri Jayasuriya (Sri Lanka) are expected to play in the top 3. The middle of the order will get a makeover as well, as newcomers Mark Kauf (Luxemborg), Joey Gingold (Philadelpia), and Stephen Dolente (Philadelphia) are expected to compete for spots in the #4-6 range. Head coach John White indicates that the new season will have a lot of training in store for team, but the new members can look forward to joining a supportive community where players “support one another both on and off the court.” Drexel will again be hosting the U.S. Open this year, so the team can also look forward to rubbing shoulders with some of the top players in the world.
