Northampton, MA — For the week ending 11/7/2011, Rosemary O’Connor (Wellesley College) and Justin Singh (Drexel University)  have been named the women’s and men’s [hpow].

Harrow Sports College Squash Player of the Week should have a significant impact on his or her team’s performance during the prior week and demonstrate sportsmanship. Coaches and Sports Information Directors may nominate players by contacting Michael T. Bello. Nominations are due each Monday by 6 PM ET.

There were a number of deserving candidates, including Smith’s Jacqueline Zhou and Washington St. Louis’ Stirling Hedderich. Zhou opened her college squash career with victories over Haverford and Vassar at #1.  Hedderich, #3, went 4-0 at the Navy Round Robin, including a five-game victory over Johns Hopkins Peter Wu (18-16, 7-11, 8-11, 11-8, 11-5).

Rosemary O’Connor (Wellesley College): Last year, O’Connor played #1 for Welleseley; however, a right shoulder injury has prevented her from swinging a racquet this season. In her team’s 5-4 victory over Boston College, O’Connor played the #9 position left-handed.  She lost the first two games. She rebounded to win the next three games, including the fourth game 12-10  (5-11, 7-11, 11-5, 12-10, and 11-7).

Justin Singh (Drexel University): In Drexel’s first season as a varsity team, their #1 player has gotten off to a terrific start. Singh opened the season 4-0, including three victories at the Navy Round Robin.  His four victories included wins against Haverford, Johns Hopkins, Fordham, and Navy.  In the Navy match, Singh defeated Navy’s Andrew McGuinness in a tight four-game match. He lost the first game 9-11, but rebounded to win the next three games to capture the match (9-11, 11-9, 11-9, and 11-6).
