Swarthmore: 2011 – 2012 Men’s College Squash Season Preview

Swarthmore, PA — As it enters its third season, Swarthmore squash has plans for some major changes.

The Garnet will now play out of the Fairmount Athletic Club in King of Prussia, PA. Paul Frank, Fairmount’s Director of Squash, will be the team’s new head coach, and Scottish national team players Lyall Patterson and Alexandra Clark will also be working with the squad.

Additionally, Swarthmore plans to play an expanded schedule this season. The team has over 25 matches scheduled and will kick the season off in Chicago with the Mid-America Championships. The team will also continue to be active in adult amateur competition, where Swarthmore players have had success in the past.

Two players from last year’s top nine will be studying abroad, but the rest of the varsity ladder will be back. The team also has three new sophomores (Harshil Sahai, Frank Song, and Jason Hua) and two new freshmen (Benjamin Mercado and Aidan Pantoja), who will all be fighting for spots in the line-up.

“The returning seniors, Tarit, Jora, Manuk, and I, want this to be a big year for squash,” says team leader James Brannon.  “With this talented and dedicated squad, we feel that in a lot of ways the sky is the limit.”
