Bowdoin: 2011 – 2012 Women’s College Squash Season Preview

Brunswick, ME — Though Bowdoin only advanced one spot between the preseason and final rankings last year, the Polar Bears showed significant improvement. A 6-3 regular-season win over Colby became a decisive 8-1 win over the Mules at the Women’s National Team Championships (Howe Cup). A 2-7 loss to Wesleyan in early February became a 4-5 nail-biter a few weeks later.

The Polar Bears have lost two players from last season’s top nine, number 6 Alex Peacock and number 1 Lauren Gesswein, who earned a NESCAC trifecta with spots on the All-League, All-Academic, and All-Sportsmanship teams. The five incoming players are all expected to play somewhere in the top nine, so expect Bowdoin to be deeper this year.

“Come and watch us play,” says head coach Tomas Fortson.
