Kenyon Hosts Midwest Squash Round Robin

John Knepper is the squash coach at Kenyon College. Kenyon hosted the MIdwest Round Robin.

Gambier, OH — At the Midwest Round Robin, held on the eight new international squash courts in the Kenyon Athletic Center, six Midwestern teams competed in a 24-match event on November 5–7, 2010. Each team played four matches during the weekend. The teams were Kenyon (host), Denison, Illinois/Springfield (UIS), Illinois/Champaign (UIC), Notre Dame and Purdue. The Indiana schools did not play each other, nor did the Illinois teams, nor did the Ohio teams.

The results were Kenyon 4-0, Denison 4-0, Purdue 1-3, Notre Dame 1-3, UIC 2-2, UIS 0-4. It should be pointed out, however, that UIS competed as an “emerging” team with five players in two matches and six players in two matches. So, as a five-man team UIS defeated both Purdue and Notre Dame 3-2.

The teams would like to keep this event going each year at Kenyon. It is hoped that additional teams will be added to the event roster as squash in the Midwest continues to grow.
