Hamilton: 2010 – 2011 Men’s College Squash Season Preview

Clinton, NY –The five Hamilton seniors on last year’s roster ended their collegiate careers on a high note, winning the Sloane Award for sportsmanship for the second time in three years. The Buff and Blue also won their final two matches at the Men’s National Team Championships, a competitive 6-3 win over Colby and an extremely close 5-4 win over Stanford.

Though the team has lost five players to graduation, only Mario Magana (number 2) and Brett Morrell (number 8) consistently played in the top 9. Jono Peters played number 4 for Hamilton during the 2008-2009 season, but was injured and did not compete last year.

As a result, the top 9 remains largely intact. The team will see the return of Peter Lisle this season; Lisle studied abroad last year and has years of squash experience. Two first-years will also join the team. Prince Mensah, a graduate of the Bronx Center for Science and Mathematics, will mostly likely play somewhere in the middle of the lineup. Pingry’s Martin Bawden, who was ranked 63rd BU19 last season, is expected to contend for a spot near the top of the ladder.

After a program record high finish of 19th in the nation in 2007-2008, the Continentals have dropped back to 21st for the past two seasons. However, they have set a standard for consistent sportsmanship that should guide them during the upcoming season.
