Boston College: 2010 – 2011 Men’s College Squash Season Preview

Chestnut Hill, MA — BC made one of the biggest moves up the rankings out of all the teams in the College Squash Association last season. The Eagles’ 6-3 win over Boston rivals BU vaulted the team from 58th to 40th.

The Eagles weren’t done there. Seeded 40th coming into the Men’s National Team Championships, they recovered after an opening round 2-7 loss to eventual E Division champions Kenyon by defeating Drexel 5-4 to move into the consolation finals. There they prevailed 6-3 over Haverford, a varsity team, to finish the season ranked 37th.

That pace of improvement would be impossible to sustain, and the Eagles have a more modest goal for the 2010-2011 season: to finish in the top 32. Last year BC opened their season with a loss to MIT, and the Engineers, who finished 32nd last season, would be a good, local test for the club team. The Eagles lost 3-6 to MIT last season when the two teams met in early November.

BC has lost three players to graduation, including last season’s number 2 and 3, but the team should be able to attract some new players once they hold tryouts. If the returners continue to improve, the Eagles may continue their climb up the rankings.
