Vermont: 2010 – 2011 Men’s Squash Season Preview

Burlington, VT — The University of Vermont Catamounts opened their trip to last year’s Men’s National Team Championships with a strong win over the University of Charleston. After not winning a team match at the previous year’s national tournament, opening with a win was move in a positive direction for the Catamounts.

They hope the improvement will continue into this season. “This is the year for big change,” says Page Smith, a player who also doubles as the Catamount’s coach.

One development is that the team is raising money for a fund that would go toward building courts at UVM. The team is also hoping to participate in the Maine Event in January and already has a match scheduled with Colby, a varsity squad. The Catamounts are looking to expand their schedule and play more matches over the course of the season.

Only one player from last year’s championships roster, number 4 Tobias Greene, won’t be joining the Catamounts when practice starts up in the fall. Haley Parkes and Brian Urman will be with the team until January, as is Smith, who will be studying abroad in the spring.

“We are building this program so hopefully we will see big improvement in the near future,” says Smith.
