Burlington, VT — The University of Vermont’s competitive squash program is only a few years old. UVM has sent a team to the Women’s National Team Championships (Howe Cup) for the past three years, where the Catamounts have competed in the Emerging Teams Division. Vermont swept the division in 2009 and came in second in 2008 and 2010.
The team they finished second to in 2008, Georgetown, has since gone on to compete in the nine-player divisions and has even defeated varsity squads during the regular season. Vermont is working on following a similar path. The Catamounts played Middlebury last December, and they are looking forward to competing in the Maine Event this January. They are also working on adding more players to the team.
Vermont has had success in the Emerging Teams Division, and the team, led by captains Page Smith and Devon Winter, is working on making it to the next level.
