Williamstown, MA — The 2012-2013 Men’s National Team Championships did not go the way Williams expected. Coming into the tournament, the Ephs were seeded second in the B Division, and after a strong win on the first day over Brown, they looked to be a lock for the finals. Then came the semifinals, where Williams was bounced from the main draw by a surging Columbia squad. This year, the Ephs want another shot at the B title — if they aren’t competing in the A Division, that is. Two players who have been with the team in the past will be back in action this season. Jack Ervasti has come back from an injury and is expected to play in the top 9; Ryan Eagan has returned from a year off and should play in the top 12. As always, Williams will play a demanding schedule, and a number of teams near the A/B bubble will be key matches: Columbia, Penn, Dartmouth, Western Ontario, Bates, Middlebury, and Navy. This section of the rankings has become increasingly competitive over the past few seasons, and Williams has been on both ends of some thrilling matches. Expect more tough competition and strong play from the Ephs this season.
