David Poolman, Inaugural CSA Executive Director & League Commissioner, to Step Down

Note from CSA Board Chair Margaret Gerety:

Dear members of the college squash community,

Earlier this week, David Poolman, the Executive Director and League Commissioner of the College Squash Association (CSA), informed the CSA Board that he would be accepting a senior position in the athletic department of Columbia University, where he worked for eight years before joining the CSA. His last day at the CSA will be Friday, September 15th.

The CSA Board, with the assistance of US Squash and in close coordination with our coaches, is committed to ensuring as smooth and seamless a transition as possible. To that end, we will immediately look to hire an interim League Commissioner for the 2023-2024 season while also convening an executive committee to conduct a rigorous search process and identify a permanent replacement.

David was hired as the CSA’s inaugural Executive Director and League Commissioner in 2018. He has dedicated the last five years to professionalizing our organization, elevating the student-athlete experience, and strengthening the position of squash within college athletics. Under his strategic leadership, we have introduced robust adjudication processes and incident reporting systems, raised our online and social media presence, and navigated complex COVID-19 restrictions. We are proud of David’s accomplishments, and we are sure he will bring the same kind of success to Columbia.

While we will miss David and his steady hand, we remain focused on our goals of growing to 40 women’s and 40 men’s varsity teams by 2030, securing NCAA status, advancing sportsmanship and fair play, and celebrating 100 years of college squash this season. These are goals we are poised to achieve thanks to the extensive expertise of our Board and the ongoing organizational support of US Squash, with whom we merged last year.

Please join me in celebrating David’s historic tenure and expressing our gratitude for all of his hard work. I look forward to your ongoing support as we host an exciting centennial season of college squash and work toward securing its bright future.

Best,
Margaret Gerety
Chair, Board of Managers
College Squash Association
