Scott Denne Named Head Squash Coach at St. Lawrence

On Monday, St. Lawrence Athletics announced that Scott Denne has been hired as the new Head Men’s and Women’s Squash Coach for the Saints.

Formerly the assistant coach of the Cornell University Men’s and Women’s Squash teams, Denne brings over 30 years of playing and coaching experience to Canton, NY. In his playing days, Denne was a highly ranked singles and doubles player on those respective professional tours, and he competed in age group finals well into his thirties. Prior to his stint at Cornell, Denne was a squash director or squash professional at five different clubs.

Denne’s first full recruiting class at Cornell looks to be very strong, with seven first-years – four men and three women – already set to compete in the starting line-ups for their teams. Last year, Cornell placed seven team members on the CSA Scholar Athlete list, including senior Michele Garceau, who was a finalist in a B Division bracket at the 2018 CSA Individual Championships.

Denne, whose start date is scheduled for next month, arrives at St. Lawrence at just the right time.  After a couple of tough losses to close out the fall semester, both Saints teams fell back in the latest CSA Rankings, with the women checking in at No. 28 and the men falling to No. 10.
