Penn Elevates Squash Coaches Wyant and Lane

Pennsylvania, University ofPhiladelphia, PA — On Tuesday, the University of Pennsylvania announced promotions of coaches in their squash programs. Jack Wyant was elevated to the Director of Squash and head women’s coach, while Gilly Lane was named the head men’s coach.

According to University of Pennsylvania Athletic Director M. Grace Calhoun, “The Penn Squash programs have seen much success in recent seasons and we are excited to keep both programs moving in a positive direction. Promoting Jack Wyant and Gilly Lane was an important step in that process. Jack Wyant has been a tremendous asset for many years while overseeing both the men’s and women’s programs. Retaining him as our Director of Squash and Head Women’s Coach ensures that we have an experienced leader guiding our student-athletes. Gilly Lane’s passion for and loyalty to Penn made him the ideal candidate for Head Men’s Coach. We believe that the men’s squash program will flourish under Gilly’s tutelage. It is an exciting time for Penn Squash.”

Wyant has been with Penn since 2004, when he was named the head women’s coach. He has guided the Quakers to three Howe Cup (national championship) finals, including in the 2015 – 2016 season. Overall, Wyant holds a 132-42 coaching record with the Penn women.

In 2010, Wyant became a dual gender coach when he assumed the men’s coaching duties. He has rebuilt the men’s program, which went 11-6 this past season and finished ranked 5th in the country. Overall, he held a 55-56 coaching record with the men’s squad.

Gilly Lane, a 2007 graduate of Penn, was an assistant coach with the Quakers in 2010 – 2011 and returned in 2013. This is the  2007 Skillman Award winner’s second promotion in two years. In the summer of 2015, Lane was promoted to associate head coach for both the men’s and women’s teams.
