Haverford: 2015 – 2016 Women’s College Squash Season Preview

Haverford CollegeArdmore, PA — After winning the E Division at Team Championships at the conclusion of 2013 and 2014, Haverford made the jump to the Epps Cup (D Division) last season. This season, head coach Niki Clement, whose position was made full-time in April, says that the teams’ goals are “to compete at our highest standard in matches. This team works very hard in practice throughout the season, and one of our goals will be to execute well and stay poised throughout competition. We also want to continually improve throughout the season as individual players.” Matches with Centennial Conference rival Dickinson, as well as matches with Boston College, Bucknell, Georgetown, and Johns Hopkins will be key for the Black Squirrels. Clement adds that Haverford squad “is a team that works hard to improve their squash on a daily basis. They are such a motivated group of women and work hard both on and off the squash court. I know part of their motivation comes from each other. They have a genuine respect for each other’s games and whether they realize it or not, affect each other to play at their best continually. They also happen to be the nicest and most enthusiastic group of women, which makes my work as head coach even more enjoyable.” Co-captains Bethany Simmonds and Emily Berlin will lead the squad.  Simmonds “has been a leader on the team since her freshman year and has shown upperclassmen as well as underclassmen examples of true sportsmanship, fairness, and respect throughout her time at Haverford.” Look for the Fords to be in the middle of the Epps Cup this season.
