Northampton, MA — For the week ending 12/7/2014, Wesleyan’s Laila Samy and Franklin & Marshall’s Cole Osborne have been named the women’s and men’s [hpow].

A [hpow] should have a significant impact on his or her team’s performance during the prior week and demonstrate sportsmanship. Coaches and Sports Information Directors may nominate players.

Laila Samy (Wesleyan University): At the DIII Individual Tournament this weekend, Wesleyan’s top player, Laila Samy, faced Phyllis Lin (Wellesley), Kimberly Krayacich (Amherst), Caroline Sawin (Williams), and Nessrine Ariffin (Bates) in the tournament and won each match, 3-0, to capture the individual event. Samy, a first year student, is undefeated in team play.

Cole Osborne (Franklin & Marshall College): Down 1-4 in the team match against 8th-ranked Penn on Sunday, F&M, the 12th-ranked team in the nation, battled back to tie the overall match at 4-4. Osborne, F&M’s top player, faced Penn’s Marwan Mahmoud. After being tied at 1-1, Osborne won the final two games to capture the individual match (12-10, 8-11, 11-6, and 11-2) and the team victory for the Diplomats. On Saturday, he defeated Yale’s Tomas Dembinski (7-11, 11-6, 11-6, and 11-5).
